Community United Methodist Church, 405 West E. St., Butner will have its annual Beef Roast today from 4-7 p.m. at the education building at the church. There will be eat-in and take-out available. Plates of slow cooked roast beef, baked potato, slaw, bread, dessert and tea will be available for $10. The event supports the missions of the church. First Fridays in Creedmoor will host a night of line dancing at the First Baptist Church Activity Center, 119 S. Main St., tonight from 6-8 p.m. The event will be instructed by Creedmoor resident Tracie Green. Casual attire and comfortable shoes are recommended. No flip flops, slides or sandals allowed.

113th Harvest Show

The Lord Granville Agricultural Heritage Association will hold its 113th annual Harvest Show on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m at the corner of 12th and G streets in Butner.

A tractor parade will go through town on Saturday. The event will include food, tractor games, antique tractor, equipment, Mama’s Kitchen old time cooking, farm shop, blacksmith demonstrations, free games and rides for children.

Daily admission is $5, two-day admission is $8 and children 12 and under are free. Proceeds support benefit the scholarship program of LGAHA.

Blessing of the Animals

The 18th Annual Blessing of the Animals will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bullocks United Methodist Church, Highway 15, Creedmoor. The event is sponsored by the Humane Society of Granville County and Bullocks United Methodist Church. There will not be a rabies or microchip clinic year.

FBC Academy Annual Harvest Day

First Baptist Church Academy will host the Annual Harvest Day on Saturday from 10 a.m-1 p.m. Admission is free. The event will feature a silent auction, local vendors, carnival food, live animals, crafts, inflatables, games, hayrides and multiple raffle items.

Movie in the Park

The Butner Community Association and the town of Butner will host a family movie night showing Disney/Pixar’s animated movie, “COCO,” which is about the fun adventures of an aspiring young musician named Miguel, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Bring chairs and blankets. The event is free to attend.

Free self-defense class

The City of Creedmoor Parks and Recreation Department will present a free Krav Maga self-defense class on Tuesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Lake Rogers Park, 1711 Lake Road, Creedmoor.

The class is suitable for anyone ages 13 and up, and no previous experience is necessary. It will be taught by Kassie Rhodes, a second-degree Krav Maga black belt and professional instructor from Krav Maga Raleigh. Arrive no later than 6:15 p.m. to fill out a waiver.

Merlot & Vangohn paint event

Creedmoor Recreation will present the Merlot & VanGogh paint and sip event at El Corral, 406 N. Main St, Creedmoor on Friday, Oct. 11 from 6-8 p.m.

Roberts family reunion

The descendants of John P. Roberts will have a family reunion Saturday, Oct. 12 at Redwood Ruritan Club, 4803 Cheek Road, Durham from 11 a.m-4 p.m.

Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish. Paper products and utensils will be provided. Donations will be accepted to defray the costs of the club rental, supplies, etc.

Creedmoor Fireman’s Day

Creedmoor Fireman’s Day will take place Saturday, Oct. 12. It is the Creedmoor Volunteer Fire Department’s only fundraiser of the year. It begins with a parade at 3:30 p.m. Barbecue and home-cooked stew will be sold until 7 p.m. Barbecue will be $8 per pound and Brunswick stew will be $8 per quart.

The Creedmoor Volunteer Fire Department is registering entrants for their 2019 Fireman’s Day Parade Businesses and civic groups interested in having a float or entry in the parade should phone or text 919-368-6470 and leave a brief message with their contact information.

Parade entries (with the exception of fire department ladder trucks) will line up on East Church Street beginning at the stoplight at the First Baptist Church. Entrants are encouraged to take N.C. 56 to Hawley School Road to Church Street, then turn right on Church Street and enter the parade formation at the first available spot.

Second Annual Granville Central Homecoming Parade

The town of Stem will host the Second Annual Granville Central High School Homecoming Parade on Friday, Oct. 18.

Lineup will start on the 100 block of Sunset Street at 4:15 p.m. Parking will be available behind town hall. The parade will start at 5 p.m. and will proceed along Tally Ho Road in front of town hall.

The theme of the parade is “Turn the Eagles Upside Down!” After the parade, the students will caravan back to Granville Central for the game The Panthers will play the Warren County Eagles at 7 p.m.

One Step 5K

The third annual One Step 5K will be held Saturday, Oct. 19 at Community United Methodist Church, 405 W. E St., Butner. Pre-register online at: or register the day of the race. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race begins promptly at 8 a.m.
