CREEDMOOR — The Creedmoor Board of Commissioners approved spending $5,619 to repair sidewalks in and around Creedmoor at its Monday meeting.
Many of the repairs are considered minor but are necessary to resolve trip and fall hazards. There are approximately 469 square feet of sidewalk that will require demolition and replacement. Steve Edwards, Creedmoor Public Works director, is working to gather quotes from some of the groups that are already in the area and pouring concrete.
In other business, the commissioners directed the city manager and city attorney to pursue a draft agreement with the county to lease the property at 3215 Cannady Mill Road for recreation and/or educational use. Parks and Recreation Chair David Richardson presented the board with the recommendation from the committee.
The city bought the property with the thought of using it as a wastewater treatment facility prior to the city joining the South Granville Water and Sewer Authority. Scott Schroyer, SGWASA’s executive director, spoke to the board about priorities, strategic planning and a comprehensive schedule that he is working on to address the major issues SGWASA currently has.
Schroyer asked that any resident with a concern about their water to contact SGWASA and let them have an opportunity to address the issue.
City Manager Korena Weichel updated the board on the Cross City Trails project and that the sidewalk project is moving along. The bridge over Robertson Creek on Highway 56 is scheduled to be installed Thursday at approximately 9:30 a.m. Weichel said that a crane would be used to install the bridge and it should only require one lane closure.
Work continues at Lake Rogers Park with the walkway over the lake being installed. Public Works will be assisting with fishing platforms and with the design of the walking trails on the west side of the lake.
The Creedmoor Board of Commissioners will meet again on Nov. 4 from 6-8 p.m. at Creedmoor City Hall, 111 Masonic St., Creedmoor.
