CREEDMOOR Falls Lake Academy cruised through the third round of the NCHSAA 1A playoffs with a 3-0 win over the Camden County Bruins on Halloween.

Camden County, ranked 10th in the 1A East Region, was no match for the Lady Firebirds. Falls Lake won 25-14, 25-12 and 25-16.

Austin Proctor started the match off with a tip for a point, followed by Chase Teal blistering a ball to the back line for a point. Freshman Jenelle Mason had an attack winner to give Falls Lake a 6-1 lead. The lead continued to grow with Teal serving back-to-back winners. The Lady Firebirds created difficult plays for Camden County to try to make. The ball just would not go the Lady Bruins way.

Macey Sammons rocketed a ball through the back line for a point followed by a huge block to give Falls Lake an 18-8 lead. Teal closed the 25-14 set win an ace.

The Lady Firebirds picked up points early in the second set on Camden County unforced errors but Macey Sammons slammed a ball home for a kill and a 4-3 lead.

The Lady Firebirds took control of the set with Teal dropping a shot just out of reach and Hannah Collier nailing back-to-back kills for an 11-5 lead. Falls Lake continued to pick up points with Collier and Teal pushing the score to 19-7. Macey Sammons added to the lead and with a quick punch over the net and the Lady Firebirds took the second set 25-12.

Camden County showed some life at the start of the third set and took a 3-2 lead. That did not last long as Morgan Newton powered a ball in for a point and the lead. Macey Sammons powered a shot at the feet of the Lady Bruins, who scattered to get away from the ball.

Teal and Collier blocked a shot to extend the lead and then Teal changed the pace with a slow floating tip that Camden County watched hit the floor.

The Lady Bruins did make a run with Kamryn Nash serving an ace to trim Falls Lake’s lead to one at 10-9.

Collier would not let the Lady Firebirds fall behind as she smashed a ball into the back row. Macey Sammons spiked a ball to give Falls Lake a 13-9 lead. Teal dropped back to serve and pushed the lead to 15-9 lead, forcing a Camden County timeout. The Lady Firebirds continued to burn the Lady Bruins with a kill by Collier and a service winner by Teal.

Falls Lake worked hard to close the third set with Mason scoring on a kill on the left side and Macey Sammons closed the set with a kill straight through the heart of the Camden County back row.

Falls Lake advanced to the fourth round of the playoffs with the win. Camden County finished with a 22-6 overall record in the 1A classification.

The Lady Firebirds advanced to the fourth round to face Princeton, the third seed in the East Region, for a Nov. 2 match.
