The open house community celebration for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is scheduled for today from 4-7 p.m. at 201 S. Main St., Creedmoor.

There will be musical performances, and light refreshments will be served.

Spaghetti dinner

The Knights of Columbus will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner today from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at United Methodist Church Hall, 507 West E St., Butner.

The meal includes spaghetti, meatballs, homemade sauce, salad, bread, dessert and drink. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children. Kids ages 5 and under eat free.

Proceeds will benefit Knights of Columbus charities.

Stem Ruritan Beef Roast

The Stem Ruritan Beef Roast will be held today from 4:30-8 p.m. Eat-in or take-out plates are $10.

Granville County Relay for Life

The Granville County Relay for Life will be held Friday, May 10 beginning at 6 p.m. at the J.F. Webb High School track.

A survivors’ reception will begin at 4:30 p.m in the Webb cafeteria.

Church fish fry

The Methodist men of Creedmoor United Methodist Church will host a spring fish fry fundraiser for the community Friday, May 10 at the picnic shelter behind the church. Hours are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Plates are $8 each, eat-in or drive-thru pickup.

The Methodist women will also have baked items for sale.

Olive Grove chicken plate sale

The Olive Grove Baptist Church chicken plate sale is scheduled for May 11 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Plates are $8 each. Email for tickets.

Creedmoor Farmers Market

The Creedmoor Farmers Market is open for the season and hours will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays until May 15.

Kale, spinach, strawberries, herbs, sweet potatoes, spring onions, some tomato plants, a variety of trees and floral bushes will be available.

First Baptist Academy Fun Run

The third annual First Baptist Church Academy Fun Run (Family Walk/5K) will be held Saturday, May 18. Sign-in and shirt pickup begins at 8:15 a.m. Run begins at 9 a.m.

Register online at or at FBC Academy on Main Street in Creedmoor.

Ages 13 and up cost $30 and ages 12 and under pay $20. Stroller riders are free. Proceeds to benefit FBCA Impact Scholarship Fund.

There will also be a bounce house, carnival food and performances.

Butner Chicken Pickin’ set for June 1

The Butner Community Association is making final plans for the 25th annual Butner Chicken Pickin’.

The Butner Street Dance will be held Friday, May 31 from 7-10 p.m. at the Lifestyle Fitness parking lot on the corner of 16th & C streets in Butner, weather permitting. The Castaways Band will perform.

The Butner Chicken Pickin’ will be held Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Enjoy day-long live entertainment on two stages, a barbecue chicken cook-off contest, food and craft vendors, kiddie activities and rides, a tractor show, and a car show. The featured band this year is Soul Psychedelique Orchestra.

The event will be held rain or shine at Gazebo Park on Central Avenue in Butner. Pets, skateboards and bicycles are not allowed at the event.
