Lady Panthers earn accolades at awards banquet

STEM — The Granville Central Lady Panthers basketball team celebrated their season with an awards banquet April 4.

The Lady Panthers finished the season with a 9-17 overall record and 5-9 in conference action.

Granville Central found success early in the season with a 43-41 win over a talented Roxboro Community team and trouncing Louisburg by a 50-19 margin.

The team’s signature win came on Jan. 4 at Bunn. The Lady Panthers handed the Lady Wildcats a 51-31 conference loss.

The team advanced to the first round of the NCHSAA playoffs and their season ended with a 57-42 loss to Washington County.

Granville Central coach Raymond Noel presented the all-conference awards, team awards and academic all-conference awards at the banquet.

Jansen McFalls earned all-conference recognition. Khalia Morton and Coryah White received all-conference honorable mention.

Kaelin Thomas received the JV Leadership Award, Deseare Harris earned the Most Improved Award, and Morton received the Defensive Player of the Year.

NeNe Long earned the Varsity Leadership Award and McFalls captured Offensive Player of the Year.

Academic all-conference winners were McFalls, Morton, Thomas, NeNe Long, NaNa Long, Charnazsha Marshall, and Sydnie Morgan. Academic all-conference winners achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher.
