Mundy named Big South scholar athlete of year

RADFORD, Va. Hunter Mundy, senior infielder for the Radford Highlanders and former standout for the South Granville Lady Vikings softball program, has been named the Big South Conference Softball Scholar Athlete for the 2020 season.

A political science major, Mundy finished with a 3.93 GPA. She had a double minor in criminal justice and international studies. Mundy was also honored as a Dean’s Scholar by the Radford political science department.

Mundy started her senior season for the Highlanders with a bang. She had a .396 batting average with a .771 slugging average. In addition, she had five home runs to her credit in the shortened season.

She completed her career at Radford with a .285 batting average with 35 home runs and 115 runs batted in. Her totals include 29 doubles and 84 runs for the Highlanders.

Mundy, a former shortstop for the Lady Vikings, led South Granville to back-to-back state titles in 2015 and 2016. Mundy captured most valuable player honors for the 2015 tournament championship. She hit two home runs in the championship game against Forbush.

Mundy closed out her career at South Granville in 2016 with a .449 batting average with 132 hits, 135 RBIs while scoring 113 runs. She had 29 doubles, two triples and 18 home runs to her credit.
