BUTNER — The town of Butner will continue to have the lowest tax rate in Granville County at 36.5 cents per $100 valuation if a draft of the budget presented Tuesday is adopted by town leaders.

Town Manager Tommy Marrow unveiled his spending recommendations during a meeting with the finance committee.

The proposed budget calls for a 2% cost of living increase for town employees that would go into effect on July 1.

Although the $6.7 million proposed budget uses $345,863 of fund balance to balance the budget, there could be some additional changes before it goes before a public hearing and is adopted, Susan Hiscocks, finance director for the town of Butner, said.

The next Butner town meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday, June 4 at town hall, 415 Central Ave.
