CREEDMOOR — Owen Theodore Roberts Jr., 76, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.
A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Owen Theodore Roberts.
Owen was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and retired from the Granville County School System with 25 years of service. He served as a Granville County Commissioner of District 5 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, July 23, in the Chapel of Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor by the Rev. David Herman. Burial followed in Community Gardens in Stem. Visitation was 10-11 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Thaxton Roberts of Oxford; a sister, Patricia Roberts Hixson of Creedmoor; a brother, David Merritt Roberts of Oxford; nieces, Lauren Roberts of Franklinton and Wendy Bowling; nephews, Eric and Bryant Hixson of Creedmoor; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Carol Roberts; a brother, Larry Roberts; and a niece, Gina Hixson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Granville County Animal Shelter, 5650 Cornwall Road, Oxford, NC 27565.
