BUTNER — In a unanimous vote at Tuesday’s meeting, the South Granville Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors approved a request for 2,014 gallons per day of water and sewer services relating to the Creedmoor Community Center, which is currently under construction at 108 E. Wilton Road.

The request was the end of a nearly yearlong process for the allocation request that started in February. The town had a 12-month timeframe to submit a final request with all required documentation.

Creedmoor Mayor Bobby Wheeler and City Manager Korena Weichel were in attendance but did not address the board. In comments made after the meeting, Wheeler said he was “tickled to death” of receiving the approved allocation, and Weichel said she looked forward to the community center bringing growth to the town.

The board also approved a contract for Carolina Civil Works Inc. not to exceed the $323,770 spent on Butner’s Veazey Road aerial sanitary sewer replacement. The project, undertaken due to storm damage from Hurricane Florence in September 2018, is slated to begin as soon as possible with a tentative completion date of late February 2020. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will fund part of the project.

Carleen Evans of the accounting firm Winston, Williams, Creech, and Evans presented SGWASA’s 2019 audit to the board. The audit found that SGWASA had slightly over $89 million in total assets for the year with a total net of $47.1 million, an increase from the $85.3 million in total assets and a $41.3 million net in 2018. Forty-six percent of revenues came from wastewater services while 28 percent came from water services. The remaining 26 percent of revenues came from other sources as well as grants and investment earnings. The report is posted on SGWASA’s website for public viewing.

In housekeeping, the board also approved the 2020 meeting schedule with the meeting time being maintained as the second Tuesday of each month. The February meeting will entail the annual election of board officers.

The next meeting of the South Granville Water and Sewer Authority Board is scheduled for Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. in the council room of Butner Town Hall, 415 Central Ave.
