Security Baron, a security-based review, comparison and news site, analyzed FBI rankings of crime rates to find out the top 50 safest cities in North Carolina and what their safety score is.
The analysis found that Butner (with a population of 7,718) was ranked No. 29 on the list, with an average safety score of 77.44 and a rate of 0 violent crimes per 1,000 citizens. The city also has a rate of 20.34 property crimes per 1,000 citizens.
Other area cities ranked among the safest were Cary (No. 4), Wendell (No. 12), Morrisville (No. 16), Knightdale (No. 18), Wake Forest (No. 21), Carrboro (No. 30) and Chapel Hill (No. 33).
The study found that the safest city in North Carolina is Elon with a safety score of 86.71 and a rate of just 5.06 property crimes per 1,000 people. Elon also has a violent crime rate of 0 per 1,000 citizens.
The last city that emerged on the list is Raeford (population 5,057) with a safety score of 63.85. The city has a rate of 0 violent crimes per 1,000 people and a rate of 37.77 property crimes per 1,000.
