Registration has begun for Toys for Tots 2019 with the Christian Faith Center of Creedmoor. The deadline is today. Contact the main office at 919-528-1581, ext. 100 or send an email with the following information: parent’s or legal guardian’s name, full mailing address, daytime phone number, and email address. For the child(ren), provide first/last name of child, birthdate (mm-dd-yyyy), current age and gender. Toys will only be available for ages up to 12.

The Granville County CBA will host its Annual Turkey Shoot at the lodge located at 1639 N.C. Highway 50, Creedmoor from 7-10 p.m. on the following dates: Nov. 9, 16 and 23. All rounds are $5. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Chicken and dumplings sale

Stem United Methodist Church, 111 North Old Highway 75, Stem will sell chicken and dumplings today from 4:30-7:30 p.m. for $8 per plate. For more information call Peggy Jackson at 919-528-1389.

Health fair

A health fair will be held Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Youngs Memorial Holy Church, 1379 Brookston Road, Henderson in the dining hall. Call 252-492-1610 for more information. A Zyto health scan will be presented free to all.

Annual food drive/Blessing Bags

The Butner Church Council is made up of churches in the Butner and Stem area. Each year, representatives from the churches distribute Blessing Bags to Butner neighborhoods to collect non-perishable food items. The bags will be distributed Sunday and will be picked up the following Sunday, Nov. 17. Contact First Baptist Church of Butner at 919-575-6606 and a bag will be delivered.

Wheelous reunion

The John Wesley and Mary Elizabeth Hailey Wheelous family reunion will be held Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Mary’s Chapel Church Annex, Grissom Community, Creedmoor. Bring a picnic lunch; drinks and paper products will be provided. For questions call Elbert Keith at 919 906-8370.

Parade entries

Downtown Development is looking for parade participants for the Granville County Veterans Parade and Oxford Christmas Parade. For more information, contact Mary Yount at 919-603-1164. The Veterans Parade will be Sunday and it starts at 3 p.m.

Veterans Day Ceremony

Butner’s Veterans Day Ceremony will take place at the Soldiers Memorial Sports Arena, 416 24th St., Butner on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. The ceremony includes keynote speaker Maj. Brandon T. Lemons with the NC National Guard. Maj. Lemons is the Detachment Commander at the Camp Butner Training Center. Also participating are area pastors, the South Granville JROTC, and music by the Granville Central High School Band. Winners of the Middle School Essay Contest will read their essays.

Free sweet potatoes

Christian Faith Center, 101 S. Peachtree St., Creedmoor will give away free sweet potatoes on Wednesday until they run out. Bring a bag and pick them up behind the building in the edge of the parking lot. For more information call 919-528-1581.

Granville WWII presentation

Mark A. Pace will discuss Granville County’s role in history’s largest war and how the great conflict affected Granville County on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Richard H. Thornton Library. Chain saw safety workshop

Fall clean out and collection

The Fall Clean Out Recycle and Collection Event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Granville County Expo Center, 4185 U.S. Highway 15, Oxford. Some of the items accepted include pain, pesticides, electronics, medications, scrap metal and batteries. Secure document shredding will be on-site also. The Granville County Humane Society will be collecting dog and cat food, leashes, collars, crates, pet beds, kitty litter, etc.

Fall walk at Robertson Creek

The Tar River Land Conservancy will host a fall walk on TRLC’s “Outparcels Tract” located on Robertson Creek near Creedmoor in Granville County on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m.-noon. Learn about TRLC’s future plans for the 317 acres currently owned by TRLC along Robertson Creek. The walk will be led by biologist Gerald Pottern and TRLC staff. Turkey Trot

Area Congregations in Ministry, the local food bank will host the 15th annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 28. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Oxford United Methodist Church on College St. The two-mile walk or run begins at 9 a.m. The entry fee is two cans of food or a cash donation in any amount to ACIM.
