The Stem Fire Department will host a turkey shoot every Friday and Saturday night in October on Hester Road from 7-10 p.m. The cost is $5 per shot. Refreshments will be available.

South Granville High School DECA members will host a “Trick or Can” food drive for local food banks for the remainder of October. Donations can be dropped off at the SGHS office during regular hours. The address is 701 N. Crescent Drive, Creedmoor.

Second annual Granville Central Homecoming Parade

The town of Stem will host the second annual Granville Central High School Homecoming Parade today.

Lineup will start on the 100 block of Sunset Street at 4:15 p.m. Parking will be available behind town hall. The parade will start at 5 p.m. and will proceed along Tally Ho Road in front of town hall.

The theme of the parade is “Turn the Eagles Upside Down!” After the parade, the students will caravan back to Granville Central for the game The Panthers will play the Warren County Eagles at 7 p.m.

One Step 5K

The third annual One Step 5K will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at Community United Methodist Church, 405 W. E St., Butner. Pre-register online at: or register the day of the race. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race begins promptly at 8 a.m.

VGCC open house

An open house will be held at all four campus locations of Vance Granville Community College on Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon. Prospective students and their families will have the opportunity to take campus tours, learn more about the enrollment process and explore academic programs in the Continuing Education and Curriculum divisions. Crime Stoppers banquet

Granville County Crime Stoppers will host its Fourth Annual Banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The event will be held at the First Baptist Church in Creedmoor to recognize and to show support for local law enforcement officers all across the county. Awards will also be given to businesses and individuals.

The meal, served by local volunteers, will consist of barbecue chicken, two sides, bread, dessert and beverages. Individual tickets are now available and or tables can be reserved for businesses, organizations, churches, agencies or civic clubs. Cluck n’ Shuck

The Granville County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its ninth annual fall seafood event, “Cluck n’ Shuck,” to be held Friday, Oct. 25, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Red Barn on Golf Course Road in Oxford.

Caterer Leon Nixon’s dinner menu offerings will be: steamed oysters, fried shrimp, fried fish, fried chicken tenders, slaw, buttered potatoes, hushpuppies, tea, Pepsi-Cola products and cold beverages.

Advanced ticket sales are $40 per person or two tickets for $75 and include all-you-can-eat on premises. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to purchase tickets early from one of the chamber’s offices — 124 Hillsboro St., Oxford or calling 919-693-6125; or the South Office, 1598 NC Highway 56 or calling 919-528-4994. A limited number of event T-shirts are also available at the chamber’s offices for $5 each.

BPS Operation Medicine Drop

Butner Public Safety will host its Operation Medicine Drop Take Back Event on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Butner Public Safety, 611 Central Ave., Butner from 9 a.m-1 p.m.

Creedmoor Police Operation Medicine Drop

The Creedmoor Police Department is partnering with CVS Pharmacy to host a drug take-back event on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Bring expired or unused medication to CVS Pharmacy, 612 N. Main St., Creedmoor so that it can be safely disposed of. The Creedmoor Police Department has a permanent drop-box location at city hall, 111 Masonic St.

Downtown Halloween trick-or-treat

Creedmoor Main Street businesses and the Creedmoor Police Department will host its downtown Halloween event on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. Members of the Creedmoor Police Department will pass out candy in front of the City Hall building at 111 Masonic St.

Trunk or treat at Butner Athletic Park

Covenant Life Church will sponsor a trunk or treat at Butner Athletic Park, 1105 W. B St., Butner on Oct. 31 from 6 a.m-8 p.m. In addition to candy there will be free kettle corn, hot chocolate and cotton candy.

Community Campfire and Movie at the Lake

The 10th annual Community Campfire and second annual Movie at the Lake will be Saturday, Nov. 2, at Lake Holt, 1200 Lake Holt Road, Butner. The campfire starts at 6 p.m. to roast marshmallows and make s’mores and the movie “Smallfoot” will begin at 7 p.m. Both activities are free. LakeSide Grill be open for both events. Toys for Tots

Registration has begun for Toys for Tots 2019 with the Christian Faith Center of Creedmoor. The deadline is Nov. 8. Contact the main office at 919-528-1581, ext. 100 or send an email with the following information: parent’s or legal guardian’s name, full mailing address, daytime phone number, and email address. For the child(ren), provide first/last name of child, birthdate (mm-dd-yyyy), current age and gender. Toys will only be available for ages up to 12.
